The hot summer days are upon us in Ocean City, MD., and while you may be on vacation at the beach it is vital to keep cool in the heat. Here are a few tips in how to keep it cool in OC…
Ten ways to keep cool while on vacation in Ocean City, MD:
1.) Mid-Day Break
The hottest part of the day is from noon to 2 p.m., which is the perfect time to take a midday break whether it is a trip to the pool or head back to your room for some air conditioning. Perhaps a light lunch, rehydration and a quick nap is all you need to recharge for the remainder of the day in the sun.
2.) Swimming
Why not take advantage of the ocean right outside your door step? Laying on the beach is not just for getting a tan. You can set up shop in the hot sand, or make your way down to the shore break where you can catch the cool ocean breeze. Keep your feet in the water without having to get all the way in. Sometimes you don’t even have to dip your feet in, let the water come to you.
Or jump in! Nothing is better than submerging yourself into the cool salt water on a hot summer day. Especially if the sun got the best of you the day before.
Most hotels and other accommodations offer a swimming pool indoors and/or outdoors. The middle of the day when the sun is at its strongest is the best time to make your way to the pool for a break from the heat. Especially if the kids aren’t ready to give up on playing in the water, the pool is a good place to retreat.
At the Carousel Resort Hotel & Condominiums located on 118th Street & Coastal Hwy., the indoor and outdoor pool are open daily for guests during the summer season; both opening at 10 a.m. The outdoor pool (May-August) closes at 9 p.m., and the indoor pool closes at 10 p.m.
3.) Cold Snackz
We all scream for ice cream! A hot day is a good excuse for a popsicle, ice cream cone, or even a Frappuccino. Head to the Bistro Snack Shop with Starbucks located in the Carousel Resort’s Atrium. There is no better way to lower your core body temperature quickly.
However, while this treat may lower your core body temperature quickly, the effect does not last long. So, take advantage of the Atrium’s air conditioning before you head back outdoors or perhaps the ice skating rink? We will get to that later.
4.) Take Cover!
An easy remedy is to find yourself some shade – whether it is under an umbrella, or even the palm trees on the Carousel’s tropical lawn – the shade will give you a cooler temperature your body will appreciate.
One of the best things about Ocean City, is local cuisine and libations are within reach no matter where you are. Here at the Carousel, head out to the Tsunami Bar and Grill (May-October) where there is umbrellas and a bar top waiting to give you shade. Try our Scooby Doo to cool down! Can’t give our secret away, so you will have to go find out for yourself.
Or head inside where there are several options to refuel. Besides the Bistro, there is also the Bamboo Lounge or Reef 118 Oceanfront Restaurant. No matter what, all menus ensure there is something to satisfy all tastes.
5.) Eat Light
Big meals filled with protein can actually make it harder to deal with the heat, as your metabolism fires up in an effort to break down all that food. Smaller, more frequent meals will help keep your internal temp more consistent.
Did we mention the Carousel Resort has a variety of dining options? From small bites to salads, tacos and even sashimi. Plus more!
